Samsung SGH-a737

Howto install games with Bitpim and cable…

All the info herein was obtain by others on various forums… All credit goes to them.

This is all re-packed info in one area. I or anyone else is not responsible for information given. It is the responsibility of the user only. WARNING! You may break your phone.

Now the information I obtained was the easiest and/or most effective way to install Java mobile phone games on the Samsung SGH-a737 mobile phone.

Items needed:

1. Samsung SGH-a737 phone and usb phone to pc cable. This phone uses a Qualcomm chipset.

2. Bitpim – I use Bitpim v1.06 – All future versions should work.

3. Qualcomm usb drivers. – This was hard to find. “Qualcomm_USB_Trieber.rar” – They are actually modem drivers or at least that is what they show up as on the pc.

4. The engineer code number *#0523# This is the only number needed to access the phone. There is another number that functions the same. That number is longer and not needed.

Now for the steps involved.

1. Install Bitpim. Reboot the PC.

2. Enter *#0523# into the phone. This will bring up a menu. Press the # key four (4) times. Press menu option [9] common. Next press menu option [6] USB Configuration. Next press [2] Qualcomm USB. The default is [1] Samsung USB. Qualcomm USB is needed to make Bitpim function. After that the screen will read. Qualcomm USB configured. Plz reconnect the cable.0 Reboot the phone for the change to initiate.

3. Install the Qualcomm usb drivers. Plug in the phone to the pc. When the PC asks for drivers. Point to the folder where the files where unzipped. The computer will find two sets of drivers. The first is the USB set and when that is finished. The PC will ask again for drivers. Again point to the folder where the drivers where unzipped. This will be the modem diagnostic drivers. This second set is what functions as the connection between Bitpim and the phone. Reboot the PC.

4. Now set Bitpim up.

Step 3: - Transfering java files on to your phone

Install and start BitPim on your PC.

3.1. On top at the menus go to: Edit %26gt; Settings. Then: Phone Type: Other CMDA Phone. At the Com Port there is a button called Browse. Here you will choose the Qualcomm Diagnostics Interface 3197 device, it should be in the list of available ports. (This step will set the phone connection.) (This will find the com port needed for connection.)

3.2. Then go to View %26gt; View Filesystem. In the left side the tree will pop up and you will see a thing called %26quot;Filesystem%26quot;. Click it, and next to it, another tree will be there with a / sign. Click the %26quot;/%26quot; and open it. After a few seconds you will see your phones full memory. (If Bitpim is not finding the phone that means the com port is not located. IE. You may have click on Qualcomm USB driver instead of the Diagnostics Interface 3197 device. Which is the correct com port. The other reason. The phone was not rebooted after you set the Qualcomm driver in the phone.)

3.2a. IMPORTANT:%26gt;%26gt;%26gt; AT THIS POINT BACKUP YOUR PHONE DB. Here’s how. In Bitpim’s browser window showing all the files and folders on the phone. Go down from the top of the list until you see the folder “/DB2/phonedb/backupDB”. Open this up and save/(backup) the file “PHONEDB.00”. Save this file to the pc. This file/or folder will be saved a zip file.

3.3. Go to Media %26gt; Games (/Media/Games) folder. You have to copy here your Java stuffs. I highly recommend that put each program in a separate folder (making new folders: right click on the Games folder in the tree view and %26quot;Make subdirectory.%26quot;. Copying files: right click on the empty space in the right side and %26quot;New file.%26quot;). You can only copy 1 file at the same time! You will need both .jar and .jad files in order to make it work (if you have .jar only then use JADMaker to create the .jad file).

THIS SECTION CONTAINS A WARNING! FINISH READING BEFORE DOING…

3.4. When you finished copying games to the phone. You can go back to the folder “backupDB” and delete the file “PHONEDB.00”. (See step 3.5 first) Then turn you phone off and then on again. Reboot. Doing this you may stand to loose you phones address book and or other important information not tied down. So before you do this. Back up everything you like about your phone. I used PC STUDIO v3.1.3. Just in case. It turns out. I did not need to worry. I lost nothing. What “PHONEDB.00” does. This is a data base for the phone. So if you delete it. The phone needs a new one. So on Reboot. The phone OS system looks at all the files and databases them. That is how the Java games get recognized by the phone. This bypasses the phone hacking with numbers thing.

3.5. If you finished with all the transfers and deleting the file “PHONEDB.00”. Close BitPim and pull of you phone from the cable.

5. Useful files: mpowerplay Try games out.

BTW if you JAVA games don%26#039;t have a .JAD file you can download JADM|||Sure.
