Can you buy a new cell phone without changing your plan?

i'm not to familiar with how the cell phone plans work. i know someone who's been wanting a new one and there birthday is coming up so i wanted to get it for them. but can you buy a new phone and keep the same number and plan? i ask because i looked some up and it don't have a normal price listed, it just has things like $9.99 plus 2 year contract. it's verison by the wayCan you buy a new cell phone without changing your plan? There are two ways to get phones

a) Get an UNLOCKED phone from anywhere they sell unlocked phones. You just pay for the phone and you use it with your existing provider.

b) You get a Free or cheaper phone from your provider (say Verizon) but you have to get or extend a contract for 2 years

YAH but u would have to pay

im not familiar with verizon but i know that if your phone has a sim card you can just take the sim card out (usually behind the batterie in the back of your phone) and change it into an unlocked phone.

if the cell phone company doesnt have sim cards then your gonna have to go for the contract and talk to the company.
Keep in mind that when you buy a phone without the plan, you don't get the special promotions. For example, buy a certain phone for $49.99 with 2 year activation. Or some carriers even have %26quot;upgrade%26quot; times. For example, Sprint allows you to upgrade a phone every year and pay %26quot;promotion%26quot; price. Outside of that, you pay full price for the phone.

Now, when you do buy a phone, have your friend call customer service and request an %26quot;ESN swap%26quot;. That means, Equipment Serial Number swap. That's it. easy enough.
I have a current contract with Sprint which renews your contract anytime you add something to the plan. Even getting a new plan renews the contract for two years. I'd rather not have a two-year commitment because I've found cheaper plans with other carriers. When my two years are up I am changing carriers.

So...read the fine print with Verizon.
If you want to keep the same # and not get a contract with the phone, then you should get an Unlocked cell phone. Unlocked cell phones are ones that can work with certain cell phone carries without a contract.

Unlocked cell phones would work only with AT%26amp;T and T-Mobile. In order to keep the same # that the person has, make sure they currently use T-Mobile or AT%26amp;T.

Here are some good deals on Unlocked cell phones. I usually get unlocked cell phones through this site.

If they use Verizon or Sprint, then an unlocked GSM (Sim Card) phone will not work.

You will need to get a Verizon phone or Sprint phone depending on the company they currently have the # with.

You can get such a phone either online on some websites or from a dealer or from Craigslist or Ebay.

Hope the above was helpful,

Enjoy...
